The Community Outreach Committee’s goal is to increase Urban Greens Food Co-op membership, provide health education, and collaborate with local partners. Our volunteers plan fun public events to support our Cooperative’s growth. We reach out to businesses and organizations for speaking opportunities. Most of all, our current outreach efforts help the public understand the cooperative model and how it will spread health and wealth in our community.
Our current Outreach Projects:
Member Made Demos
Member Made Demos are held in members’ homes or community spaces. The demos aim to share skills from Urban Greens members to Rhode Islanders. The Member Made Demos reflect the cooperative spirit driving Urban Greens to open a community-owned store. Open to both Urban Greens members and the Providence community, this member-led workshop hopes to inspire healthy, affordable, DIY food options in a fun, cooperative atmosphere. Past Member Made Food Demos have shared how to make yogurt, granola, sauerkraut, kale chips, and more
LOCAL GREEN: Meet & Greets
The concept of LOCAL GREEN: Meet & Greets is simple: Urban Greens members and local economy supporters gather at a local business at a predetermined date and time with the goal of purchasing local goods. Urban Greens members flex their collective power to support the local economy by highlighting local food products at local retail establishments. LOCAL GREEN:Meet & Greets are a fun opportunity to try a new restaurant featuring local sourcing, organic ingredients and community involvement; learn about Urban Greens Food Co-op’s work to open a full scale grocery store; and meet sustainably minded local folks. LOCAL GREEN Meet & Greets are adapted from CASH MOBS.
Community Events: - Road races, expos, health fairs, farmers markets, community gatherings, networking events, film screenings, etc. Urban Greens volunteers have information tables at them all. Invite us into your community; we love opportunities to talk about the co-op!
Local Partnerships - Relationships with local businesses and organizations that are interested in collaborating with Urban Greens. These vital partnerships come in many forms including subsidization of employee memberships, offering product or service specials and discounts for Urban Greens Food Co-op member-owners, or allowing us to host a presentation or table in the workplace.
